Twitter and Tagboard Collaborate to Bring Best Election Content to News Outlets With Tagboard Discover

As the most important midterm election in our history approaches, people will take to Twitter to voice their opinion on key issues. Today, Tagboard and Twitter are announcing a joint effort to make it easier than ever for broadcast news stations and media organizations to discover and share Twitter content as a part of their live broadcasts and storytelling with the launch of Tagboard Discover.

For news producers, success in storytelling demands they source unique and timely live content to include in their broadcast, bringing viewers closer to the story and empowering the voice of the voters behind every location, election, and debate.

Available today, Tagboard Discover allows local and national news stations to curate the most contextually relevant content on Twitter. Tweets are automatically curated by political races, candidates and party affiliation. Customers can further drill down any of these conversations to tweets in specific locations, with additional keywords, find verified accounts, and search for broadcast-safe content.

Updated in real-time, Tagboard Discover provides a powerful way to incorporate the conversations happening across local communities, and giving viewers a richer, interactive experience by bringing Tweets into live broadcasts using Tagboard displays. Leading up to the midterm elections, broadcast producers are already leveraging the platform to capture thought-provoking questions from viewers during live debates and instantly display tweets and reactions on-air.

Earlier this month, Twitter announced that it’s partnering with local broadcasters to livestream important debates in political races across the country. Building on this, Tagboard worked with Twitter to provide media organizations with a simple way to discover and surface Twitter content in real-time, and quickly distribute across their properties including broadcast TV, venue screens, web and mobile platforms.

Twitter is delighted to be working with Tagboard and local televisions stations around the country to bring the Twitter conversation about the U.S. elections to viewers’ TV screens,” —Eric Zuckerman, manager of news partnerships for Twitter.

Today, Tagboard works with hundreds of national and local news outlets across the country including TEGNA, ABC, FOX, NBC, The Washington Post, BuzzFeed, C-Span, Sinclair and Meredith broadcast stations, among others. All will have access to Tagboard Discover to deliver the public conversation in this essential time.

One of the early adopters of Tagboard Discover is TEGNA, which operates 47 TV stations across the U.S. Leading into the midterm elections, TEGNA will leverage Tagboard Discover to discover and curate Twitter content directly, and bring reaction, commentary, and other forms of important content directly into their production, amplifying voices of communities around each local race.

“The innovative crowdsourcing that the Tagboard, Twitter and TEGNA collaboration enables is surfacing locally relevant conversations in real-time and enabling voters to ask questions during debates,” — Adam Ostrow, Chief Digital Officer, TEGNA.

Discovering this type of hyperlocal, raw, in-the-moment content will allow local stations to bring the voice of their viewers and influencers directly into the news from the front lines, at scale. TEGNA was able to garner content from Tagboard Discover, directly from Twitter, and apply it into their broadcast coverage of the Maine Gubernatorial debate on October 22nd & NEWS CENTER Maine’s US Senatorial Debate on October 29th.

With today’s announcement, Tagboard continues on our mission to empower the storyteller by creating scalable ways for our media partners to easily discover and incorporate social content, in real-time, into their storytelling.

In this Fall’s elections, the role live social content will play has never been greater. By bringing authentic voices to the forefront of their coverage (including Twitter content from local residents and candidates), broadcast networks and media have an opportunity to improve their coverage and storytelling. By the same token, local candidates, voters, and communities will continue to see a richer discussion around key issues.
